The Will Geer Memorial Day Parade
Monday, May 31st
9:00 AM, Leaves from the Center of Town

The Will Geer Memorial Parade has been a tradition for many years for our community. With all it's Topanga spirit and community participation, safety has become an issue.

Women and children have become targets of water balloons. Officers assisting the parade have become victims of foul language and water attacks.  Motorcycles and dirt bikes weave in and out of the parade and ride up on and through the horses and floats carrying children.  Protestors mocking and protesting the TCC rules of Topanga Days.  Water guns and balloon attacks on bystanders and visa versa. Parade participants becoming victims, when they are not participating or armed for water play.

What has become of our parade?  We as a community are destroying our own tradition.  Our behavior as a community has made our parade questionable.  The Topanga Community Club, a.k.a. The Community House , must obtain permits and get approval from Sheriff, Highway Patrol and Caltrans in order to host the Will Geer Memorial Parade.  Our past behavior is making it more difficult.
There is even the thought that if things do not improve this year, there may not be a parade next year!

This is a call for help to our community.

  • Please watch out for your children and teenagers.

  • No off road vehicles and cycles.

  • Only street legal and licensed drivers, should be driving in the parade.

  • Children on bicycles and skates, need to have safety gear and helmets.

As adults, let's set examples for our children and fellow community members.  Help us keep the fun in water play.  Let's work together and watch out for each other.  The Topanga Community Club wants to continue to support the Will Geer Memorial Parade.
We need you to do your part.

Thank you!         By: Lisa Villasenor
